Beer Review: Great Notion POG Frog Fruit In Can Smoothie Sour
Just had a chance to try the Great Notion POG Frog Fruit, and it’s every bit as wild as you’d expect.
The pour is insane – it’s not beer, but a thick, almost pulpy smoothie, with a vibrant orange-yellow hue that resembles pure tropical juice.
The aroma is a total assault of fruit. You get hit with a powerful one-two punch of tart passion fruit and sweet, creamy guava. The orange is also present, adding a bright, citrusy zing, and a delicate, slightly floral sweetness from the lychee makes it unique.
On the tongue, it’s a flavor bomb. It’s incredibly true to the fruits it’s made with—not artificial or syrupy. The rich sweetness of the guava perfectly balances the tartness of the passion fruit, and the orange provides a fantastic zesty acidity that keeps it from being cloying. The lychee adds a cool, almost floral note on the finish. But the most memorable part is the mouthfeel. This beer is thick. It drinks exactly like a smoothie, which is the whole point.
Overall, this is a spectacular, over-the-top sour that lives up to the hype. If you’re a fan of heavily fruited sours and you want something that truly pushes the boundaries of a “beer,” this is a must-try. It’s best enjoyed as a dessert or a special occasion treat rather than a session beer; a true tropical vacation in a can.
