Beer Review: Nothing’s Funner Than Fun
Collaborators: Cellarmaker Brewing Co. x Green Cheek Beer Co.
Style: West Coast IPA
“A Modern Love Letter to the West Coast”
If you’ve been following the “clear beer” resurgence, you know that Cellarmaker and Green Cheek are two of the undisputed kings of the craft. When they announced a collaboration, the hype was massive—and Nothing’s Funner Than Fun doesn’t just meet the hype; it laps it.
The Pour It pours exactly how a West Coast IPA should: crystalline, pale gold, and glowing. The head retention is fantastic, leaving thick lacing on the glass that persists until the final sip.
The Nose The aroma is where the “Krush” and “Nectaron” really flex. The second you crack the can, the room fills with the scent of overripe peaches and those specific “Dole pineapple juice” notes. There is zero “onion” or “garlic” funk here—it is pure, unadulterated tropical fruit punch.
The Sip This is where the expertise of both breweries shines. Despite the massive hop load, the beer is incredibly lean. There is no cloying malt sweetness to get in the way. It starts with a zesty citrus snap—tangerine and grapefruit pith—then transitions into a mid-palate of stone fruit. The finish is remarkably clean with a “snap” of piney bitterness that clears the palate and makes the beer dangerously drinkable.
What makes this beer special is the use of Cryo hops. It allows the brewers to pack in an insane amount of flavor and aroma without the “hop burn” or vegetal astringency that often plagues lesser West Coast IPAs. It feels nostalgic because of that classic bitterness, but the flavor profile is light-years ahead of the IPAs we were drinking ten years ago.
It’s bright, it’s bitter, and it’s arguably the best IPA collaboration of the year. Grab a four-pack before it’s gone, this is a “Land of Dreams” for hopheads.
