Beer Review: Lucky & Cheeky’s Escape
Beachwood Brewing x Green Cheek Beer Co.
When two master decorators of the West Coast IPA genre collaborate, the expectations are as high as the hop bill. Lucky & Cheeky’s Escape is a 7.1% ABV India Pale Ale that perfectly captures the “clear beer” philosophy shared by Beachwood and Green Cheek.
Appearance
This IPA pours a brilliant, translucent straw gold. The carbonation is lively, supporting a frothy white head that leaves delicate lacing down the glass as you drink.
Aroma
The nose is an immediate tropical getaway. High-intensity notes of pink grapefruit zest and tangerine dominate, backed by a resinous punch of fresh pine needles. There is a distinct “dank” quality here, paired with softer notes of white peach and passionfruit.
Flavor & Mouthfeel
The palate is incredibly lean and crisp. You get a quick hit of blueberry and citrus peel before the beer moves into its dry, cracker-like malt finish.
Bitterness: Firm and assertive, yet clean.
Body: Light to medium-light, making it dangerously drinkable for its ABV.
Complexity: While hop-forward, it maintains a botanical balance with hints of crushed peppercorn.
The Verdict
Lucky & Cheeky’s Escape is a masterclass in precision. It avoids the heavy caramel sweetness of old-school IPAs, opting instead for a bright, effervescent profile that emphasizes hop oil aromatics and a snappy finish. It is exactly the kind of refreshing, “clean and mean” IPA you would expect from this powerhouse duo.
